Scholarship Recipients: Where Are They Now? Sheyenne Hammond

Foundation News

August 4, 2021—

For five years (2016-2020), Sheyenne Hammond spent summer evenings serving Nebraska-seared ribeyes to the best membership west of the Atlantic.

She absolutely loved it.

“Every summer, it was such a fun job and I loved meeting people from throughout the country,” said Hammond.

Her journey at the club culminated in 2020 when she was awarded The Prairie Club’s Foundation Scholarship by the Scholarship America.

At the time, she was already into her studies in McCook and was eyeing some additional education. She completed those with the help of this scholarship.

“I now have two associates degrees from Mid-Plains Community College — one in Accounting and the other in Ag. Business,” described Hammond. “And now I have a certification in Business Administration.”

Sheyenne has used that education to land herself a position next door at the CapRock Ranch as they get started. Sheyenne is serving as both the Lodging Coordinator, and in assisting the accounting team.

Her love for this area — and the work she’s able to pursue here — has her living full-time now in Valentine.

“The scholarship I received helped me finish my schooling at McCook and that extra year of school I believe is really going to help propel me in my career,” concluded Hammond.

Hammond’s journey emulates the purpose of this scholarship, to equip the young people of Cherry County so they can work and live and love this place so many of us appreciate.

Good luck in your journey, Sheyenne!
