Announcing the Recipient of the 2020 Prairie Club Foundation Scholarship: Sheyenne Hammond
June 10, 2020 —
In 2013, The Prairie Club Foundation was established through the generous donations of the Club’s members.
It is the goal of the Foundation to empower Cherry County’s youth through tuition aid for secondary education. The scholarship’s recipients are likewise diligent employees of The Prairie Club in some capacity.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the winner of the 2020 Prairie Club Foundation scholarship: Sheyenne Hammond!
There’s a good chance you already recognize her.
Sheyenne has been taking care of our members and guests as a server in the Food & Beverage department for nearly five years.
And as great as she has been in her position, her dreams extend beyond these rustic walls.
Miss Hammond has already earned her Associate’s Degree in accounting at Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) in McCook, Nebraska. Next up is an Ag Business degree from the same school, as she has a strong desire to tie her business acumen with the agricultural industry.
“I know I want to be in ag,” explains Sheyenne. “It’s what I’ve grown up doing.”
Her father’s work as a commercial lender in Valentine has been influential in her desire to work in the business and banking world.
As a native of Valentine, Miss Hammond also has a genuine fondness for this land. We’re beaming at the idea that she aims to settle down in the Valentine-Sandhills area once she has finished her schooling.
As for fun? Sheyenne participates on the rodeo team at MPCC, where they compete against 13 other teams across the Great Plains. She’ll compete for one final year as she wraps up her education. Certainly an added bonus for going back to school!
We couldn’t be more proud of Sheyenne and her ambitions to serve the local agricultural community. There’s no doubt in our minds that she will succeed in whatever she sets her heart on.
And, as always, we’re forever grateful to those who have contributed to the Foundation. You have played an important role in supporting this region and its people.
