Maverick Featured in 2023 Dog Days of Golf

January 18, 2023 —

Many of you have met, seen, or at least heard of Maverick.

Here is a photo of Maverick.

He is the “co-superintendent” of the Dunes alongside Andrew Getty, his owner.  Mav is an energetic and friendly four-year old golden retriever who helps on every single project we have on the Dunes Course.

For 2023, Maverick earned a new honor — one that we’re incredibly proud of — he is the cover pupper of the 2023 Dog Days of Golf Calendar!

Take a look:

The calendar is put on by the GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America) and they collect photos of dogs working on golf courses all across the country.

At the end of the year, they select 14 dogs to be included.

Submissions were collected throughout last summer.

And while there were many worthy candidates, Maverick was the cover winner.  Amazing!

Maverick’s bio on that back of the calendar:

Maverick is a 4-year old golden retriever who lives the dream at The Prairie Club in Valentine, Nebraska. Maverick loves greeting guests on the driving range, chasing jackrabbits and swimming in the irrigation pond.  His favorite part of the day is eating lunch with the crew in the breakroom.  Maverick adores people and is always pleased to receive attention from anyone he meets.  Away from work, Maverick loves going for hikes and road trips.

Andrew Getty is a GCSAA Class A superintendent of the Dunes Course at The Prairie Club.  A seven-year GCSAA member, Getty is a 2017 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a degree in turfgrass and landscape management.  In his free time, Andrew enjoys cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Minnesota Vikings, weightlifting, reading, and working on projects around the house.

From Roger’s dog Nenzel, to DJ’s dog Millie, to Maverick and all of the other dogs that grace our property (including Paul’s pup Gracie), this is a pet loving property!

And we’ve always welcomed the pets of our members with open arms, so long as they are respectful guests, just like their owners.

We wanted to pass this news of Maverick along to all of you.

(P.S. We don’t know specifically how to get you a copy of a calendar, but if you’d like one, let us know and we can try to figure it out!)
