Reflection on Jon Rahm’s US Open Victory

News

June 22, 2021 —

In the fall of 2015, Jon Rahm visited our club toting an Arizona State golf bag full of potential.

At the time, Rahm had eclipsed the number 1 ranking in the world amateur rankings. The young Spaniard had taken the collegiate golf world by storm, winning events across the nation.

When we hosted the inaugural Jackrabbit event, South Dakota State University golf coach Casey VanDamme was able to bring a strong field that included Rahm and his Sun Devil teammates.

Many of you probably remember this event.

Rahm carded rounds of 75-69-70 on the Dunes Course, good for a 10th place finish.

Fast forward six short years, and Jon Rahm is now a US Open champion.

It’s been very cool to watch Rahm’s ascension on the professional tours across the world — all the way to #1 in the world.

Bien jugado (well played), Jon. Felicidades (congratulations)!
