Todd Carey Ace Story on Dunes 4 | June 2012

Holes-in-one

October 3, 2020 —

In June of 2012, Todd Carey set out for a round on the Dunes with three of his best college buddies — Brian Lazear, Doug Pilkington, and Bryce Carlson. His good friend Jon, a former caddy at TPC, was on his bag.

It had been a long summer for Todd. His game wasn’t sharp and he had mentioned to his buddies his struggles on the road trip out. A potential act of gamesmanship, Todd was setting expectations low.

As the group approached the par-3 fourth on the Dunes, Todd was last of the four to hit. Each of his buddies stuck shots within 8 feet.

With the pin on the back left side of the green’s front portion, Todd pulled out a pitching wedge — per caddy recommendations — to challenge the 128-yard shot. After all, he had to finish off the group in style.

And boy, did he ever…

His shot landed about 10 feet short and rolled right up into the cup.

Todd instantly started running. He knew he was about to be tackled by his group members.

The reaction of the ace can be seen in the video below.
